Apprentice jockeys set to make debut at Caymanas Park

A new generation of jockeys is ready to take the reins at Caymanas Park.

The 2024 cohort of the Jamaica Racing Commission’s Jockeys’ Training School has completed its lessons and practical classes, and now it’s time for the real challenge: riding in official races.

Several apprentice jockeys will make their debut on the race cards on Saturday, December 14, and Sunday, December 15. On Saturday, Evertte Clunis, Demar Williams, Emilio McLean, Jermaine Lewis, and Romaine Gordon will take to the track. Most of these apprentices will return for Sunday’s races, joined by Tyrese Anderson.

Before starting their official riding careers, the apprentices gained valuable experience by riding in three races exclusively for apprentices. Now, they’re ready to put their skills to the test in front of a live audience.
