Barefield, David sparkle as Blackwater rips NorthPort

Blackwater unleashed its full offensive might in the second half as it shocked NorthPort, 120-98, for its first win in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup on Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Bossing pulled away from a tight contest by outscoring the Batang Pier, 72-51, in the last two quarters.

Filipino-American guard Sedrick Barefield unloaded 11 of his 20 points in the second half while joining hands with big man Christian David, who poured all his 19 markers also in the final two quarters.

Guard RK Ilagan added 17 points and eight assists while three other Blackwater players scored 10 points or more in a balanced scoring attack.

Arvin Tolentino returned from a one-game absence due to sore hip, firing 15 points and six rebounds.

Joshua Munzon led NorthPort with 27 points while William Navarro had 24 and 11 rebounds, but their efforts went down the drain as they lost for the second straight game.

Blackwater and NorthPort now carry identical 1-2 records.
