Cavalier, Frazsiers Whip notch wins in JWPL

LEADERS Cavalier maintained their one-point advantage in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League by beating an improving WiFi United 2-1 at Carder Park in Portland on Saturday.
The win was Cavalier’s seventh-straight, after they opened the season with a draw against Arnett Gardens and are on top of the table with 22 points — one more than defending champions Frazsiers Whip who returned from a bye week to beat Real MoBay 8-1 at Royal Lakes, with Davis Richards scoring a hat-trick in a game that was reduced to 80 minutes.
Arnett Gardens maintained third place with a 5-1 win over Federal United while Los Perfectos are in fourth place from their 3-0 win over UWI Women’s.
Shanel Spence scored her 16th goal of the campaign to give Cavalier the lead in the 20th minute at Carder Park but Tashel Davis pulled the home team level 10 minutes later.
Tamara O’Sullivan, however, rescued all three points for Cavalier when she scored the winner in the 53rd minute.
Real MoBay led at Royal Lakes when Ashley Lowrie scored in the sixth minute.
Frazsiers Whip responded quickly and decisively as Lotoya Duhaney drew them level in the 10th minute and Destiny Powell, who had a brace, gave them the lead in the 28th minute.
Richards made it 3-1, with the first of her three goals coming in the 32nd minute, before Powell completed her double with a goal in the 35th minute.
Richards, who reclaimed her lead in the goalscoring competition, scored her second and her team’s fifth goal from the penalty spot in the 56th minute while Nevillegail Able scored in the 66th minute to take the score to 6-1.
Ricquanna Richards then added a seventh goal in the 70th minute before Richards completed her hat-trick two minutes into time added.
Shakira Douglas scored a double for Arnett Gardens, taking her tally to 15 goals in their win over Federal United who were losing their sixth-straight game.
Tasheka Reid opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Suen Gregory added a second in the 36th minute.
Douglas then scored her first in the 53rd minute to make it 3-0 while Federal conceded an own goal in the 72nd minute before Jenella Burton pulled one back for the Spanish Town team in the 76th.
Douglas returned to complete her brace, scoring in the 80th minute.
At Brooks Park, Andrene Smith’s first-half double carried Los Perfectos to a 3-0 win over UWI Women’s as she became the fourth player to get into double figures for goals scored so far this season.
Smith scored in the ninth and 23rd minutes to take her tally to 11 goals while Veniecia Reid added a third in time added at the end of the first half.
Mile Gully got their second win in beating Springers United 5-0 at the Granville Community Centre. Lara Kay Hanson started the scoring in the 15th minute and Judeen Ebanks made it 2-0 just before half-time.
Nickela Thomas added a third goal in the 67th minute, Rhianna Gayle scored in the 85th minute, and Amora Rowe got one in the 90th minute.
