Corey Bennett remains uncertain about Calabar future despite exit rumours

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Despite rumours that his contract as track and field head coach with Calabar High will not be renewed, Corey Bennett remains uncertain of the situation.

“I have no idea…when I return to Jamaica I will be better able to respond to that,” said Bennett in response to Jamaica Observer queries.

Bennett, who signed a three-year contract in 2022, guided Calabar to two third-place finishes at Champs in 2023 and 2024 and a second-place spot in 2025.

Bennett also led Hydel High girls to two titles in that time and it is understood that the overseas-based Calabar old boys fraternity doesn’t believe he is the right man for the job due to the dual role.

In an earlier Observer interview, Bennett made it known that he is very uncertain as to his future with Calabar when his contract ended.

The Wolmerian said Calabar was like family to him, but he had to respect the length of the contract and the direction Calabar might want to go.
