Further and Beyond defies odds in Mouttet Mile

In a stunning display of determination and heart, Further And Beyond
, a six-year-old chestnut horse bred in Jamaica, finished an impressive fourth in the prestigious US$250,000 Mouttet Mile on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
With odds stacked against him at a staggering 98-1, Further And Beyond, owned by Vickram Oditt and trained by Donovan Hutchinson, delivered a thrilling performance under the skilled guidance of jockey Aaron Chatrie.
After the dust settled at the conclusion of the Mouttet Mile, Further And Beyond’s achievement shone brightly. Despite being outrun by the top three finishers —
Funcaandun, Legacy Isle, and Commandant — all bred in the United States, Further And Beyond’s fourth-place finish brought joy to Jamaican breeding.
Further And Beyond’s superb finish earned his connections a whopping $1.9 million. Moreover, as the first locally bred horse to finish in the Mouttet Mile, his breeders received a $1.2-million bonus.
Further And Beyond’s remarkable performance has ignited hope and excitement within Jamaica’s racing community. As the first locally bred horse to finish in the top four of the Mouttet Mile, Further And Beyond has demonstrated the potential of Jamaica’s breeding programme.
The 2024 Mouttet Mile showcased the talents of several locally bred horses, with
Rhythm Buzz finishing ninth, followed by Atomica, Intrestntimesahead, and
Banadura in 10th, 11th, and 16th places, respectively. However, it was Further And Beyond who stole the show, capturing the hearts of racing fans with his grit and determination.
