Lady Bulldogs turn back Tigresses, sweep first round

MANILA, Philippines — The NU Lady Bulldogs turned back the UST Golden Tigresses in five sets, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 15-9, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday to sweep the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball first round.

Lams Lamina dished out 33 excellent sets and got four teammates scoring in double digits for NU which went 7-0.

Alyssa Solomon topscored with 24 points on 21 attacks and three blocks for the Lady Bulldogs, who ended the Tigresses' 5-game winning run.

Solomon added seven digs while Vange Alinsug notched 16 points, 10 digs, and seven receptions.

Reigning MVP Bella Belen pumped 19 points, 17 digs, and 15 receptions while Erin Pangilinan rounded out the double digits scorers for NU with 12 markers.

Regina Jurado amassed 16 points, 16 digs, and nine receptions for UST which ended the first round in second place with a 5-2 slate.
