LeBron James Gets Honest About How Much Longer He’ll Play In NBA

The season was cut short for the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night after falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.

That means it is time for the Lakers to start their long summer vacation.

It also means it’s time for the seemingly annual speculation about what’s next for LeBron James.

Speaking with ESPN, James was asked about his plans and if he is considering retirement.

“I don’t know,” James said when asked how much longer he planned to play before retiring. “I don’t have an answer to that. Something I’ll sit down with my family, my wife and my support group and kind of just talk through it and see what happens. And just have a conversation with myself on how long I want to continue to play.”

This answer is similar to ones fans have heard before.

It seems that when a season comes to a close, James weighs his options and thinks about what might come next.

He could stick around with the Lakers, which is what most people expect.

James has a player option to return to LA for the 2025-26 season.

That would net him $52.6 million, and he has to make a choice by June 29 or become a free agent.

James is 40 years old, so everyone wonders when he will step away from the game for good.

With that being said, he is still a hugely consequential figure for the Lakers, and they are eager to keep him around.

In all likelihood, he will spend time away with his family and friends and probably determine that he wants to keep playing.

But every game brings NBA fans closer and closer to the day when James decides it is time for him to hang up his jersey for good.
