Meadforest, Lime Hall clash in JFF Championships for semis spot

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leaders Meadforest FC and Lime Hall FC will meet at Drax Hall on Tuesday in a Jamaica Football Federation Championship rescheduled return round game that could decide at least one semi-finalist from Zone A.
One point separate the teams who will be seeking to join Falmouth United and Treasure Beach FC who have secured both spots from Zone B already with one round of games left to be played.
Zone A is tightly bunched with any of five teams still in with mathematical chances of making it through to the top four. Meadforest FC lead with 25 points and will seek to repeat their first round win over Lime Hall who are on 24 points.
The hard charging Spanish Town Police are in third place on 23 points, one more than Tru Juice FC who are on 22, with Baptist Alliance a point further back on 21 points.
Treasure Beach who are seeking to return to the Jamaica Premier League after getting a taste of the “big leagues” last season, booked their semi-final spot from Zone B on Saturday after beating Mt Pleasant FA juniors 2-0 at Drax Hall.
Both goals came in the second half, Odane Windett got the first in the 57th minute while Adrian Johnson added the second in the 71st minute as they improved to 27 points.
Falmouth United who had booked their spot a week earlier, secured the top spot in the zone after edging Duncans United 1-0 in the Trelawny derby played at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium.
Falmouth United’s 32 points cannot be overhauled.
Spanish Town Police stayed in contention in Zone A after a 3-1 win over Progressive FC, extending their unbeaten run to a league high eight straight games.
Tru Juice FC jumped into fourth place above Baptist Alliance after beating the St Thomas team 2-0 to avenge their first round loss.
Grays Inn secured their place in next season’s league after beating Portlanders FC 3-0, their second win which took them to nine points, four more than the losers.
In the other games played on Saturday, Holland PYC beat Reno Reno FC 2-1 while Petersfield FC were 2-0 winners over last placed St Bess United at Llandilo Sports Complex.
