Mount Alvernia seal spot in ISSA girls’ basketball final

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Mount Alvernia High advanced to the final of the ISSA rural girls’ basketball championship after coming from behind to beat Herbert Morrison Technical 44-29 in the semi-final at Herbert Morrison on Thursday .

Mount Alvernia High, who avenged their 31-40 loss to Herbert Morrison in the regular season, rebounded from a first-quarter deficit to outscore the hosts 40-20 over the course of the remaining three quarters.

Herbert Morrison Technical led 9-4 after the first quarter but Mount Alvernia High, led by Caustena Holness and Brianna Bailey who combined for 27 points, took over the game in the second quarter.

Mount Alvernia outscored Herbert Morrison 16-2 in the second quarter to lead 20-11 at half-time. They went up 36-18 going into the final quarter.

Holness led all scorers with 14 points, while Bailey scored 13 and Jayla-Shae Wright added eight for the winners.

Bianca Maxwell led Herbert Morrison with 11 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four blocked shots, while Cayla Thompson scored six points.
