Petro Gazz import Gia Day emotional after AVC exit

MANILA, Philippines — Petro Gazz's American import Gia Day shared some tears and was moved after her team's hard-fought exit from the 2025 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Champions League, succumbing to China's Beijing BAIC Motor on Friday.

Almost but not quite, Petro Gazz ran out of fuel in the grueling five-set match, bowing to the Chinese squad, 29-31, 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 12-15, in the quarterfinals.

The 6-foot-2 spiker, who mounted 35 points, along with 17 excellent digs, and 10 excellent receptions, shed some tears after her stint in representing the Philippines.

"I'm very angry right now because I think that the girls did really enough for us to win. I could have kept it up in the last sets, but I'm really proud of how everyone worked so hard," Day told the media.

"It just brought tears to my eyes because the girls wanted it so badly, and they had so much fun. This was the most fun game I've ever played. So I'm very thankful for them," she said with tears.

Day, who played in the NCAA with the University of Maryland and went all over the world to play, shared that her experience playing in the Philippines is way different.

"Because coming here, I was not having fun playing volleyball, but with them, I had so much fun. So I thank them very much for working hard, and having me," she added.

With the upcoming Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2025 Reinforced Conference, Day expressed her desire to play once more in the Philippines.

"For sure, for sure. The girls are so much fun, the culture is so fun. I know the season's a very weird time, the import season. But I hope one day, for sure, to return. Definitely, it's in my future plans. If they'll have me," she added.
