Thunderbelles stun Angels to draw first blood in PVL QF series

MANILA, Philippines — Putting things in order, the angels bowed to the gods tonight.
ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles stunned the Petro Gazz Angels in straight sets, 25-21, 25-23, 27-25, to take the Game 1 of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Thunderbelles snapped the No. 2 team Angels' 10-game winning streak to grab the upper hand in the playoff series.
In the third frame, ZUS was down by three points, 20-17. after pulling a 4-1 run led by Chinnie Arroyo's loaded swings, 21-20.
Petro Gazz relied on Brooke Van Sickle and Myla Pablo's prowess to trade blows over the gutsy Thunderbelles to tie the match at 25-all.
However, Pablo made an attack error and was blocked by Jov Gonzaga in the late stretch of the match, 27-25, that allowed ZUS to escape with a victory.
ZUS was led by Mich Gamit's 10-point output on six attacks, two blocks, and two aces.
