Valdez cherishes representing PH

(UPDATE) ALYSSA Valdez relishes the chance of representing the Philippines again at the AVC Women's Champions League through her club team Creamline Cool Smashers.

Valdez and the Cool Smashers defeated Jordan's Al Naser, 29-27, 25-20, 25-19, to start their campaign on Sunday at the PhilSports Arena.

This is Valdez's first time to represent the country since the Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia two years ago.

"It really is an extra motivation having the flag on our chest and representing as well Creamline Cool Smashers. I have double motivation and inspiration to fight today," said Valdez who scored 10 points against Al Naser.

"It's just so nice to play always for the Philippines. We play like there's no tomorrow all the time because these chances and opportunities are not given to us all the time, so we're gonna grab it and try to represent the country well."

A many-time national team member, the 31-year-old Valdez said she didn't expect to play for the Philippines again, especially at home.

"It's very overwhelming for me just because I think it never crossed my mind to represent again the Philippines in any competition. We'll take this. Not just me, but the whole Creamline Cool Smashers because we're here because of the whole team. I'm very overwhelmed but very excited and very happy to be able to represent," said Valdez.

"It's been a while since last 2023. I'm with coach Sherwin (Meneses) also back in Cambodia, so it's nice always given that opportunity and the only thing that we could do is bring honor and pride to the country all the time."

Valdez and the Cool Smashers continue their Pool A campaign against Kazakhstan's Zhettysu on Monday.
