Notre Dame defeated Indiana 27-17.

The Minnesota Vikings employ one of the most dynamic WR duos in the NFL, with Jordan Addison proving he can be a reliable sidekick. The main attraction, of course, remains Justin Jefferson, from a yardage standpoint, the most productive receiver ever through five seasons.

Behind those two, the Vikings have made some changes to their depth, adding various players through free agency, the draft, and by signing undrafted rookies.

One of those was added to the roster on Tuesday. Without too many words, the team announced on social media, “The #Vikings have agreed to terms with undrafted free agent WR Myles Price.”

Myles Price

Like many other players nowadays, Price had a five-year college career. He spent the first four seasons at Texas Tech and then one season in the Big 10, playing for Indiana.

In those five years, he appeared in 55 games, catching 199 passes for 2,217 yards and 13 touchdowns. Furthermore, he was briefly used as a rusher, adding another 270 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. But that’s not all, he also returned 42 punts and three kicks. That’s important because the Vikings don’t have a punt returner and might want to find a new kick returner.

Price is one of those shorter receivers at 5-8, 178 lbs, but he brings 4.41 speed to the table.

IUHoosier.com‘s Pete DePrimio noted about Price ahead of the draft: “At a listed 5-foot-9 and 183 pounds, Price doesn’t overwhelm with size, but he’s quick and elusive and has the burst and versatility NFL teams seek, and the confidence to back it up. Price helped the Hoosiers produce perhaps the greatest season in program history with an 11-2 record and college playoff participation. He says it made the pain of leaving Texas Tech worth it.”

A player with some gadget play ability on offense, his easiest path for a roster spot is by clinching a returner job. Running back Ty Chandler is the incumbent kick returner, but punt returner Brandon Powell is no longer under contract. Players will line up to try out for that gig to improve their chances to make the team.

WR Room

The Vikings now employ 13 wide receivers.

  1. Justin Jefferson
  2. Jordan Addison
  3. Jalen Nailor
  4. Tai Felton
  5. Rondale Moore
  6. Tim Jones
  7. Lucky Jackson
  8. Jeshaun Jones
  9. Thayer Thomas
  10. Silas Bolden
  11. Dontae Fleming
  12. Robert Lewis
  13. Myles Price
Maryland’s Tai Felton, right, runs away from Oregon’s Brandon Johnson, left, during the third quarter at Autzen Stadium.

Of course, the top three WRs from last year (Jefferson, Addison, Nailor) have a roster spot secured, and so does Tai Felton, the third-rounder from last week. Felton might challenge Nailor for the WR3 job at some point.

Moore is a talented player, but coming off a lost season with a severe knee injury, he still isn’t fully healthy. Jones offers special-teams value and might be the replacement for the departed Trent Sherfield Sr.

Jackson, Jones, and Thomas are practice-squad veterans and hope to earn a spot on the 53-man roster this time.

The last four players are undrafted rookies. Bolden starred as a punt returner at Texas and is a decent candidate for that job at the next level.

Like most UDFAs, those four are a long shot to survive roster cuts in August, but showing promise on special teams is their ticket towards continued employment.
