Vikings Post-Draft Cold Takes

These aren’t brand new Vikings post-draft takes given by yours truly; these are a collection of takes that were spewed by the masses, myself included.
There were a lot of assumptions about what the Vikings would do in the 2025 NFL Draft, seeming as their roster is in a spot where just about any pick other than QB made sense, even though I’m sure there are some people that said the Vikings should take a shot at Jaxson Dart or Shedeur Sanders when they both fell to them at 24th overall.
Let’s go over some of the conclusions made by us Vikings loyalists, and NFL enthusiasts as a whole, about what the Vikings were “most likely” going to do in this year’s annual draft extravaganza.
“The Vikings Will Draft a CB”

This one seemed too obvious, and it wasn’t… or was it?
A cornerback in the first round of the draft seemed like the most likely scenario for these Vikings in this year’s iteration of the NFL Draft, especially when the board fell the way it did. Travis Hunter aside, the only corner off the board at the time of the Vikings’ selection at 24 was Jahdae Barron to the Denver Broncos at 20th overall, basically leaving Minnesota their pick of the litter at the position.
Minnesota didn’t just neglect a corner at 24th overall; they didn’t spend a single draft pick on the position altogether, instead addressing other depth positions like interior offensive and defensive lines, as well as wide receiver.
“The Vikings Will Trade Back”

As aforementioned, the board shook out quite well for the Vikings, and they had twenty different ways they could go with 24th overall, and if you had known that before the draft happened, you’d probably make an assumption that they’d likely trade back. It would make all the sense in the world, given the fact that the Vikings only had four draft picks heading into the event, the fewest on any team in the league.
Well, nope. Minnesota saw some offensive linemen going early, and although it might not be the reason they decided to pull the trigger on Donovan Jackson, they did decide that that was the time to strike and take a lineman that they believe could solidify would might be one of the scariest and most daunting offensive lines in the entire league.
”The Vikings Will Sign Their QB2 After the Draft”

There’s another variation of this one: “the Vikings will draft their QB2”, but that wasn’t as common a rumor as the main idea that Minnesota would wait until after the draft to get J.J. McCarthy’s backup.
Well, a mixture of the two kinda happened. Minnesota did get their QB2 going forward during the draft, but it was via a trade with the Seattle Seahawks for Sam Howell after they drafted Alabama QB Jalen Milroe during the third round of the draft. This immediately made Howell expendable to Seattle, even though they traded for him from Washington themselves just over a year ago now.
